Why the interest in the Enneagram?
It all started in 2019. My world stood still, and I felt as though it was the end – nothing made sense any more, there was no way out of the situation I had found myself in.
I was exhausted – mentally, emotionally, physically. Today I know that it was a depressive episode combined with burnout. Back then I only felt that my life was over.
Entanglement in a job dominated by the dynamics of the drama triangle – a continuous dance between persecutor, victim, and rescuer – completely drained my resources and shattered my self-esteem. With the last remnants of my strength, I managed to leave, to save myself. At this difficult moment, a book from my bookshelf called out to me – one I had bought on a friend's recommendation but had not yet read: “Falling Upward: A Spirituality for the Two Halves of Life” by Richard Rohr. I didn't know that this reading would completely change my life and my way of looking at the world.
No, it wasn't a book about the Enneagram, but it was the one that introduced me to this powerful tool. The word “Enneagram” was mentioned in it only once, but it was precisely this that caught my attention and sparked my curiosity, indeed even my passion! It was a lifeline thrown to me from on High. At that moment began a fascinating journey of delving into the Enneagram tradition, discovering oneself and infecting the people around with a love for this philosophy. Today we are ready to pass this knowledge further and enable you to look deep within yourselves.
Why did I fall in love with the Enneagram?
No matter which source I consult – GALLUP’s talents, Human Design, the cosmogram or the Mayan horoscope – all paths lead to the same conclusion: my calling is to optimise human life! Finding solutions that will help people understand themselves and their loved ones, foster genuine understanding, and enable us to deal with all the obstacles – be they mistaken beliefs, defence mechanisms or harmful habits that block our access to our full potential.
Learning the philosophy of the Enneagram was like tearing away the curtain separating the main stage from the wings.
I realised that the behaviour of the people at whose hands – or so I had thought until then – I had suffered harm, was not at all premeditated. The behaviour that hurt me, offended me and made me feel guilty was not directed against me, but was merely an expression of the inner pain and suffering experienced by my “tormentors”. I was the same to others. This realisation acted as a soothing balm for my emotional wounds. It allowed me to look at my experience – and at the people who played a part in my personal drama – in a different light. But above all – it opened the door for me to delve into my own psychological mechanisms and understand the illusions my ego had always fed on.
Each of us feels that our history, experiences and personality are unique, extraordinary, unrepeatable. Partly that's true. However, the world wouldn't be able to function if we couldn't reduce certain areas of human existence to a single, common denominator. That, after all, is what all personality typologies do, trying to pack humanity into a few dozen pigeonholes to make it easier for us to reach an understanding with one another.
The Enneagram goes deeper, while at the same time simplifying and making it easier to understand people's motives, behaviours and thought patterns. It reveals to us that there are only nine, rather than eight billion the ways in which we function. Of course, we will differ from one another in terms of personality traits, temperament, values and so on, but at the heart of it all there will always be only one out of nine mechanisms, which are responsible for specific motivations, deep beliefs about oneself and the world, and the primal wound that we yearn to heal.
Discovering what lies at the root of the tendencies that I myself possess, as well as those of my loved ones and other people around me, has enabled me to understand and, consequently, to forgive. Today, I draw deeply from the wisdom of the Enneagram, striving for a fuller, more conscious life and a deepened connection with others. We want to make the same possible for you.
